When Leisa Gibson first took part in the Women in Business Expo about a decade ago, she had just one product to show. Today, the founder of Leisa’s Salon and Beauty Supplies makes a line of hair care and skin care products in Guyana, and she is returning to the Expo for its 30 Special Edition this weekend at Pegasus Hotel Guyana.
“Being a part of Women in Business Expo is nothing but great,” Gibson told Business Inspire. She said the Expo has taken her business as far as Suriname and Florida. “The exposure you get from this particular expo, nothing beats it.”
Natasha David (Natasha Livingston) of Tasha’s Creative Design and Jewellery, who designs handmade jewellery, has been with the Expo since the start. She said she was very shy at first, but being alongside other women entrepreneurs helped her grow more comfortable and confident, and she learned from those around her.

Both women see networking and collaboration as central to the Expo’s value. “Networking is very important for business owners,” Gibson said, adding that events like this are “very, very good for women.”
That support matters most when it comes to independence. Ahead of next month’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, both women spoke about why women need their own income. David said she is willing to teach others her skills so they can become independent, and she noted that children learn from watching their mothers in business.
“When you help a woman, you’re helping an entire community,” Gibson said.
She also had advice for women retiring from the public service with skills they aren’t using: “Put those skills into practice,” instead of staying at home.
The Expo runs on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25 at Pegasus Hotel Guyana. Admission is free. Gibson’s message to visitors: “You will be amazed.”
